Article #5: Global Aging and Overpopulation

The aging problem is that elderly people are surpassing the younger people. Taking care of elder people is costly. There are solutions to solve this problem. Paid work contributes not only to material well-being but also to psychological well-being through social interactions and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Unpaid work like volunteering can also provide the same psychological benefits. Encouraging paid and unpaid work to the elderly could be an important part of the solution to the aging challenges. There should also be a retirement scheme allowing the elderly to reduce their working hours yet still remain in the workforce and pay taxes until a later age and reward them for their voluntary work. Older workers can even train younger workers because of their experience and still get paid.
If i was in charge of a national task force, I would look for a way to provide leisurely jobs for the elderly. I would also provide a senior houses for which their family members would be paying an affordable amount every three months to take care of the elderly. I would also urge the community to help in taking care of the elderly.

Overpopulation results from an increase in births, a decline in mortality rates,or an increase in immigration. There are solutions for overpopulation which are spreading awareness and education about overpopulation, enacting birth control measures and also providing general access to birth control devices and family planning should be involved too. For example, In China, the government has policies that regulate the number of children allowed to a couple and some people are suggesting to the United Nations to make the policy global and reduce overpopulation.

  1. Provide leisurely jobs for the elderly is good idea if the elderly have strength to perform the jobs assigned.

  3. For me the elderly would be enable to work because at that time many of them are weak, you need to take care of them like a baby, but for the government to give them a house would be gd idea.

  4. I support evelne'so suggestion because these elderly people had worked and laboured so much. So this is the time for them to rest and reap the fruit of their labour. Therefore the only thing they need is supports from the government and the family members to help them enjoy the rest of their life.
